American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Honours Department Faculty Member
Chicago, IL, October 23, 2010 - The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) chose Dr. Alastair Carruthers to receive its Samuel J. Stegman, MD Award for Distinguished Service.
This award honours individual who have made a significant contribution toward furthering the goals of the Society through education, organizational service and/or research.
Dr. Carruthers has previously served as a president of the ASDS and is currently a Clinical Professor in the UBC Department of Dermatology and Skin Science. He pioneered the technique of micrographhic surgery in Canada and also co-founded the first Canadian Mohs surgery fellowship program. Dr. Carruthers's work in dermatologic surgery also led to the appplication of botulinum toxin for skin rejuvenation, which is now one of the most common procedures performed in the world.
Dr. Carruthers now maintains a private cosmetic medical practice in Vancouver.
