Skin vaccination research by Dr. Jan Dutz recognized by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Vancouver, B.C. - September 1, 2010 - UBC Researcher Dr. Jan Dutz has been profiled in an online spotlight by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for his leading edge research into vaccination delivery and effectiveness.

Dr. Jan DutzHis novel approaches to improving vaccinations include looking at delivering vaccines through the skin rather than injecting them into muscle tissue, as well as improving the body's immune response to the vaccination by using specially formulated creams.

The CIHR sees Dr. Dutz's research as having the potential to improve people's responses to vaccinations, reducing the number of vaccinations required for full immunity, and having the potential to lead to the development of new and better vaccine delivery methods.

Dr. Dutz has recently been promoted to the rank of full Professor in the in the Department of Dermatology and Skin Science, and is a key mentor with the CIHR Skin Research Training Centre.
